ASIS Granite State Chapter 101
Group 5 Regional Update, January 2016
Recently we held our January training events and annual membership meeting in Washington DC, I must say for me this was several days of 1st for me as a long term Volunteer leader. On Wednesday January 20, 2016 we spent 4 hours with the ASIS board talking about our view of ASIS International 10 years from now, this session was open to all comments and it was all documented for follow up.
On Thursday January 21, 2016 during our RVP and ARVP we were joined by our new CEO Peter O’Neil, again this was a first for me at this important meeting, he shared with us his view for the future and his willingness to listen to volunteer leadership. Below is a bio on Peter and I hope you all join me in welcoming him to our team!
Peter J. O’Neil, FASAE, CAE, formally accepted the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Peter is currently the CEO of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, an international professional society representing 10,000 occupational and environmental health and safety professionals. Located in Fairfax, VA, the association is supported by nearly 50 staff and has 73 chapters. The organization has a consolidated $21m annual operating budget. In addition to AIHA, Peter has management responsibilities for three limited liability companies, a related education oriented foundation, a foundation that establishes guideline values for exposure limits, and a newly formed Product Stewardship Society.
Peter has served in leadership positions over the past ten years with the US Chamber of Commerce, Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE), American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and The Center for Association Leadership. He is a past chair of ASAE and a past chair of the ASAE Foundation. He received the Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification in 1998 and was named as an ASAE Fellow in 2006. Peter is an author and frequent presenter, facilitator, and speaker at industry events.
Peter graduated from Syracuse University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in International Relations. Additional post-graduate work was conducted in public administration, knowledge management, and association management. He lives in Arlington, VA with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children, Bryn (18), CJ (15), and Liam (10).
We also reviewed some of our goals 2016; first I was honored to represent the ASIS Foundation at our Leadership meetings. I am asking you all to support the $1 per member donation for each Chapter to our foundation, these funds result in educational scholarships to members as well as others seeking to join the Security profession. We should be proud of our Foundation and we should all support it, if you have any members who would like to talk about the needs of our Foundation please provide me their contact information, I have attached my power point presentation from our training for you to review and share!
Next I am asking that all of your AVRP’s promote and endorse our mentoring program, I have attached this program for you to review and share with all of the members in your group! Let’s also use this in your regional training with your Chapter Leadership.
What we need to be successful is your participation, engagement, and ideas.
